Broadcast on PBS in 2016, BRIDGING THE DIVIDE: Tom Bradley and the Politics of Race tells the compelling story about Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley-the first African American mayor elected in a major U.S. city with an overwhelmingly white majority. Mayor for 20 years (1973-1993), his extraordinary multiracial coalition redefined Los Angeles, ushered in police reform, and transformed the national dialogue on race, encouraging elections of minority candidates nationwide, including President Barack Obama.

BRIDGING THE DIVIDE raises critical issues about race, coalitions and police brutality in minority communities. Beginning in the aftermath of the Watts Rebellion and covering the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest, the film is especially relevant during these times when the nation is at a tipping point in the struggle against racial injustice and police brutality.
