Learn moredont know why so many people seem to hate this, i think this is genius lowkey
Good quality foreign film that can entertain and surprise people that dont think they can be entertained&surprised much anymore.
Hey Katherine, hope you see this!
Hey Sinjin! Hope all is well! How are you doing? Are you okay? I'm worried about you. Haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope you're not up to too much trouble.
I am doing quite fine actually, recently I've been extremely busy so I haven't been able to talk to you! I am okay, just got into trouble with the law, but now everything is fine, I was able to make bail. How have you been?
Oh no!!! Sorry to hear that! I've been
wondefurl
I think I saw this movie already quite some time ago, yet did not seem to remember, for some reason. Clearly a well developed story and well made movie, yet I feel like it would have been better if my gentle soul had not been exposed to it.
This movie opened my eyes to how good Korean cinema is and I have been a fan ever since. One of my faves.
This movie was wild. 10/10 Would ruin my life again.
The premise was great. However; not as good as it was hyped up to be. But still a very solid movie with a very unique premise. I was surprised by the ending which was a good thing.
A bit over-the-top with some performances and violence, but very well made. Much much better than the remake
Not five stars for me. Too much violence and gruesome scenes. Hard to watch at times.
Sorry, but this movie fell flat in its strain to be profound. The characters were phony and cardboard, and the implausibility of their actions was pathetic.
The driven rage of Josh Brolin in the remake was much more satisfying and plausible.
really, this synopsis told so much of the film story, I no longer want to watch it. way to go Kanopy
Having read many comments before yours, I had already decided against watching this film. I hope these services will someday reach Canada where they will be appreciated.
it seems to me I watched part of it- and in the end, the why didn't seem to matter-
I can't remember how it ended, so I might not have watched. it was all very depressing and yet absurd.
I thought I saw some replies from Canadian libraries Toronto, even Quebec.

did someone say "remake". I never like English/American remakes or reboots of older films.
and I can't imagine why someone would choose to remake this
Finally got to see the original version though Spike Lee did a decent job with his version it has nothing on this one. Korean's just do an amazing job telling a story and they love blood. I have to say this is right up there with some of the other amazing Korean movies that I've seen such as I Saw The Devil, Chaser, Mother, A Hard Day, The Hand Maiden, Tunnel, Bad Guy, and many more Lol again Korean's have an interesting and unique way of telling a story and that's why I LOVE watching them but you have appreciate their style if not then you won't enjoy their movies quite as much as I do.
Read lessThe kind of people that don’t like this movie are the kind of people that eat mayonnaise and only enjoy marvel films. Mostly they eat mayonnaise.
I loved this film, and I love mayonnaise (in the right context), I love a good story well told. (Which includes some Marvel films - no snob, I.)
That is enough an endorsement for me!
if a few of you liked this, Korean and Japan are obsessed with how bloody they can make it. this film makes no sense-
its mean and nasty without a purpose- but Saw made 5 films so clearly there is a market-

I found it very difficult to concentrate through this film. Clearly over my head. I like mayonnaise on ham, turkey and especially on a bacon club.
I loved this film and I love Marvel films. They aren't mutually exclusive! Mayonnaise I'm iffy about though.
agree 100 % Marvel Movies have been great.
true

OldBoy is a great film

Amazing.
i COMPLETELY disagree with you here. I liked the movie a lot and BUSter did . BUt, it could have been a lot better of a movie. It seems to us that they didn't even really consider the cinematography. But, having said that, It's good.
excellent.thank you.
First South Korean movie I've seen and based on this it won't be my last. Loved the story-telling.
Korean's tell a story quite differently than anyone else that is why I'm always on
the lookout for something from them that I haven't seen.
Really liked this film, especially the neo-noir elements in it. Also felt that Chan-woo brilliantly used the Oedipus complex in the protagonist!
five stars of trash!!!!!!!!!
Bingo-violent film? From comments I dare to think at least somewhat brutal.
That was dope!
Fav South Korea film so far. I'm a female, the violence not only did not make me cringe, but help me feel the pain of the character.
'Oldboy' is a pure guy flick. Entertaining - tho not for children. Extremely violent. A Korean film. There is also a 2013 remake by director Spike Lee that stars Josh Brolin & Samuel L. Jackson
The best Korean movie I've ever seen
iNCREDIBLE film. The acting was superb and the storyline - intense, complicated, yet worth the ride. This has opened my eyes to South Korean cinema. Absolutely!
Well it is considered one of the best Korean films ever made so.....yeah?
Brilliantly-crafted and very gruesome at the same time. Have a taste of South Korean cinema! However, OLDBOY is not for those with a weak stomach!
